Still Alive

I don’t want people like Leslie worrying about me because I haven’t been online or posting updates. Truth be told, I’m just too busy having a great summer that I haven’t gotten around to making the promised updates. But let’s see if I can’t play a bit of catch up.
This past weekend started off well with Yasmin arriving safely, though a bit dehydrated, at my door. We called up Stephen to do a bit of shopping when completely out of the blue, I get a phone call that went something like this:

Him: Where are you?
Me: I’m shopping in 900 North…
Him: Oh, ok. Where in 900 North?
Me: Third floor, close to Bloomingdale’s. Why? What’s going on?
Him: Ok! Don’t go too far. I’m coming by to see you. *click*

Of course, I was completely confused, but as it turns out, he had a couple free days, so he thought he’d stop by before graduation and surprise me for the weekend. Pretty cute stuff.

The surprises just didn’t want to end. On Saturday, while we went to Chinatown to grab a bite to eat, I nearly walked right by my cousin without noticing because I was so facinated by a woman’s shirt. Then, as we were waiting for our seats, who would we see but Kevin St. Clair, AKA Pancakes, IMSA class of 2000. Combine that with the random pointing in our general direction by some people I swear I’d never seen before, and I’d say that was a pretty amusing dining experience.

Then, on Sunday, I ran into Hsin and Zhi-Yoong at Border’s. It was so completely random and hilarious. Apparently they were here to get their Chinese visas and had nothing to do for an evening. Coincidences abound!

And yesterday, Jennie and I went out with McLaughlin, who was just back for a week before he returned to Japan. I usually love Italian, but the boy was so late, we’d already eaten and I couldn’t stuff myself anymore. Besides, who makes bruschetta with tomato purée anyway?

It Must Be the Skirt

So, I went to browse a bit along Michigan, thinking that I might actually buy Jo a real present for her (now belated) birthday, and I met some guy who told me that he was a TV producer doing work with Asians. Something about not being able to find Asian women with curves for his commercials… As much as I would have liked to join him for coffee and a tour of the studio, I was in a hurry, and I left.

Now when I think about it, it must have been the skirt. It seems like every time I wear this skirt, I get all sorts of random attention. First, it was some girl in the Shanghai subway talking about modeling, who I promptly ran away from. Then, it was a woman who followed me for a block and a half near People’s Square, this time, asking me if I was interested in doing image consulting work.

For a skirt that cost me 5 bucks, that’s not half bad.

Happy Weekend

I had such a wonderful weekend, really enjoyed seeing Jo and Jennie and Mengyao again. I also got this absolutely amazing tea yesterday. It’s so addictive, and so delicious, everyone should come and join me for a cup of this stuff.

Oh, and did you know that bra shopping for 3 straight hours is really tiring? Even if you’re not the one trying them on. Yup. More insights to come, after I find a Crate & Barrel.

*Crosses Fingers*

First day of work tomorrow. I really hope I can wake up early enough. I finally found my office today… and with any luck, I’ll still be able to find it tomorrow. A little bit of eating, a little bit of shopping, all in all, didn’t get too much done. I think I might be slowly developing a fear of heights. That may or may not be from sitting by the window sill for hours while on the phone.

Back in the USSR

The title was stolen from an AIM conversation with the ever amusing Juha. But yes… got into Chicago last night. Still trying to get my act together, but first, lunch with my cousin.
