Cambridge Life

All MIT students love to go Harvard bashing sometimes, especially during the height of midterm season. So here’s a little something to fuel your fire. But aside from all the interschool rivalry, I do believe the author poses an important question, which I found myself discussing not 24 hours ago.

“If you could either go here and get no diploma, or not go here and get the diploma, what would you do?”

The answer, in the end, is the difference between a great university and a brand name.

  1. The sad part about our “rivalry” is that there is no such thing as “MIT bashing” at Harvard. It’s completely one-sided and from my experience Harvard people actually have respect for the MIT engineers. How come it doesn’t work the other way around? Does envy have something to do with it?

  2. Haha, we’re probably just bitter that way. I mean, what do you expect when people run around in underground tunnels all day after spending all night coding?

But seriously, Harvard does have a reputation for letting its students get by without that much work, or even that much thinking. Most students in US colleges of this caliber are aware of this, and it is upsetting to some that kids can go earn a degree from such a “prestigious” institution without that much effort.

Luckily for us, MIT doesn’t have the same reputation at all. If anything, it’s the complete opposite because this school is known for pushing its students to the very limit. It’s pretty much analogous to UC Berkley engineers going Stanford bashing, actually. I could go on forever, but I think I’ll spare everyone.

  3. Joe: respect isn’t always and doesn’t have to be mutual.
