Tell Me Why

So, I’ve looked at my calendar, and apparently, I have 2 papers, 1 or 2 presentations, 1 problem set and 2 exams next week. Now, I’m only taking 4 actual classes, or the equivalent of 5 “normal” classes. How can I have so many things in just one week? How could this possibly be? Let’s not even talk about the research or the various other activities that I somehow got involved in.

Doesn’t it make sense now as to why I’m anti-commitment? *sigh*

Wet, Wet, Wet!

Oh, the beauty of New England weather. I made the horrible mistake of waking up late again this morning. So instead of looking outside before I went off to class, I simply walked out the door. It wasn’t until I’d reached McGregor that I’d realised I had forgotten something, a couple things, actually.

First, I’d left my yogurt, with all its live and active yogurt cultures, sitting uneaten out on my desk. Then, I’d forgotten to grab an umbrella on my way out. So by the time I’d arrived at lab, I was absolutely drenched. Thank goodness for my pure nylon and spandex clothing, otherwise I would have never dried off.

The good news of the day, of course, is that I’ve finally purchased and obtained my first textbook of the term. Isn’t it my luck that our midterm is next week? Just in time. Now maybe I should go buy the course reader…. But Sloan is so far away. :)

Slacker

I’m becoming infinitely talented in the diverse art of procrastination. Each day, I go to lectures thinking, “Maybe I should have done my readings more than 5 minutes ago,” or “The problem set is due in two days, I’ll start tomorrow.” I have yet to purchase any textbooks and I’ve already attended 3 weeks of class. Midterms are slowly creeping up on me, but I haven’t even bothered to jot down the dates from the syllabus. *sigh*

To make myself feel better about my state of mind, I pretended to work the career fair… I pretended for more than two hours, but I just wasn’t in the mood. There are so many people and so much free stuff, but I still felt completely unmotivated to speak to the recruiters. I did hand out a number of copies of my resume, which almost made me feel better, in that half-desperate for a job sort of way. But I don’t know why we’re so obsessed about it anyway. It’s not as if I’ll be graduating this year…

All these pressures. Bleh

Lovely Weekend

Welcome back to the real world. I had a wonderful relaxing weekend of food and fun…. and no school work. Just wandering around the city eating is the best.

Working with Puppies

Yay! I have once again successfully tricked someone into giving me a job. I have no knowledge, no experience, but damn it, I’m enthusiastic. Now to get funding so I can actually get paid…

Actually, I don’t really get to work with puppies, but since the Media Lab has random pets roaming about, I’m sure I’ll have the opportunity to encounter a few along the way. Studying political correctness in decision making is almost as satisfying, really it is.

I have half an hour to stuff my brain with all the John Stuart Mill it can handle before my Bio class. *sigh* Back to those commitments…. Such is the life of an overworked student.

Too Early for the Flu

You’d think it might be a little early in the season to fall ill… but apparently my immune system is pretty useless. So I figured that if I just dope myself up with 50 times the recommended daily intake of vitamin C, it’ll make things better.

Chicken soup is for the weak.

My Life is a Mess!

That title is especially true if my room is any representation of the cleanliness of my life, but as of a couple hours ago, it’s finally clean enough to be able to step through without tripping at least 4 times. Organising is such a pain, but it does manage to burn off some of those excess calories consumed during the sushi buffet. :)

Now to settle old debts: Yes, Bono is Irish, and yoga produces the most significant boost in happiness. Why were you not surprised? So there you have it. If you want to feel immediately better, statistically, you’d be better off doing yoga than attending mass.

*sigh* It’s back to the Political Philosophy readings… Jeremy Benthem, I’m all yours.

Puppies and Happiness

I went for another UROP interview today. Not sure if I’ve got a job yet, but I did get to play with the puppy that randomly wandered in halfway through. I’ve got to say, that really picks you up.

I don’t know what it is, but this research group really has it all figured out. They do research to show how irrational human beings are. How could you not want to work for them? Listen to this latest study.

You make these surveys that ask your participants to evaluate their generally state of happiness and fulfilment. You stand outside: a) various places of worship b) an aerobics class c) a yoga class, and distribute these surveys before and after participation in the aforementioned activities and analyze the data to determine which “religion” (loosely defined) gives you the greatest boost in happiness. Which religion do you think will win? Leave your guesses and I’ll tell you the answer in my next post.
