Pigs and Silver

“I’m going to talk not about pigs, but about silver. But they are very, very similar.”

Or so says Anna Pavlova, my Finance professor. Actually, we were talking about trading futures, but taken out of context, that quote is hilarious. She also says things like, “Stocks… they’re all the same. But pigs, some are cuter than others, some can double as pets….”

Finance is fun.

Maybe I Just Want to Fly

Speaking of obnoxious… where do we draw the line for an entertainer? Celebrities often complain about the invasion of privacy. Don’t get me wrong, it’s horrible to be bombarded by cameras and stalkers everywhere you go. But as a celebrity, aren’t you more than just a singer or an actor? Perhaps they’d be happier thinking of themselves as a marketable product… Building a brand name, if you will.

Which brings be back to the Gallaghers. Yes, they’re obnoxious, but they’ve definitely got something figured out. It’s their jobs as entertainers to amuse their fans. Is it sad that two thirty-somethings with children can’t stay out of the papers because they keep pummeling each other? Yes, but it’s hilarious, isn’t it? You read their interviews and think, “These guys can’t possibly be real,” but that’s the point. I’ll bet that at the end of day, they’re just a couple of normal guys with normals lives and a few extra million dollars in the bank. But everyday, they get up and go to work. They talk trash to some people, beat each other up, and provide generally inexpensive amusement to thousands, all the while providing fodder for the seemingly millions of tabloids in London. In the process, they move a few units and sell out a couple shows.

I’ll bet that this whole act of keeping up the “Bad Boy” image must be doing a great deal of good for the economy.

Dance If You Wanna Dance

Listening to:
masterplan cover
The MasterplanOasis
14 – The Masterplan

In response to Paul’s comment:
You mean Oasis isn’t God’s gift to humanity? The Brothers Gallagher sure think so. :-P But seriously, they’ve got some great mid-tempo pieces and even though Noel is notorious for stealing other people’s words/melody/anything else he can get his hands on, you’ve got to give it to the boys. They have this magical ability to overcome Liam’s whiny voice and create something beautiful from mere scraps. Yay for “synergy.”

Talking to Myself Again

Listening to:

Oasis - Heathen Chemistry Cover

Heathen ChemistryOasis
10 – Born on a Different Cloud

I’ve been on an Oasis high recently… not sure what brought this on. It was probably that street performer in the subway stop playing Don’t Look Back in Anger, which happens to be one of my favorite songs of all time. I could reminesce about the day in Lincoln when I first heard it on radio, and how it was love at first, um, sight.

I would think about the soft summer breeze tossling my hair as I wrote in my journal 8 years ago. I would be amazed how a few chords can bring back memories from the far reaches of my mind and how it made me feel twelve again, how it made me wish I were still twelve. It is my song of escapism. It whispers to me and I feel happy, content, and blissful. Like a cat on a cold winter afternoon, I curl up in my pool of sunshine and the world around me melts away.

I always find it valuable to have such moments with myself. Life is so hectic sometimes, and to be able to reach back and find simpler days, if only for a few minutes, it keeps me sane. And knowing my traumatic experiences with Math/Science/Engineering, I need all the sanity I can muster.

Productivity… Amazing!

It’s strange how the end of the week creeps up on you when you’re busy. But life has been good. Two exams in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. Then I managed to convince someone to rent me their room during the summer, so theoretically, I should be pretty much set for this crazy internship business.

It’s a stange feeling… Am I finally growing up?

Must Find Housing

Dude, finding my own housing is going to be a serious pain. This is perhaps because of my general laziness, but still… I’ve been browsing around Craigslist for Apartments or people looking for roommates in the San Jose Area, but I still haven’t figured out how I’ll be getting to work everyday, since I don’t have a car and stuff.

Eventually, someone will want to be my roommate. Otherwise, I’d better be on the lookout for nice cardboard boxes.

You Know You’re Old When….

All my friends are getting married, or so it seems. Filip and Zhenya, Chris and Sue, Andreea and Dmitry. It’s a shame I won’t be able to attend any of them, but it’s just as well. I don’t need to be reminded of that whole “growing up” process. Eww, gross! ;) Well, it could be worse. At least I’m not attending baby showers… yet.

Chemicals Between Us

Let’s see what’s happened since the last post…. Took a couple exams, signed my soul away for an internship, and gone presidential. Happy Easter Monday. Time to engage in active personal hygiene.
